What is Shipspec?
Shipspec turns an app idea into a clear plan and a folder of ready-made files that AI coding tools follow step by step. You describe the idea, answer 3–6 questions, and get the plan, the build steps, the tests, and the security and legal pages your app needs.
Which AI coding tools does it work with?
Claude Code, Cursor and Codex, plus any AI coding tool that reads files in your project. The files include AGENTS.md, which these tools read on their own, and CLAUDE.md for Claude Code.
Is Shipspec free?
Yes. You get 3 plans a month for free, no card needed. You can also make unlimited plans inside your own Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor account by connecting the Shipspec MCP.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. The plan is written in plain language, and your AI coding tool does the building. You paste one message to start, then approve each step when it stops to show you.
Why does AI build the wrong thing without a plan?
Most app ideas leave out details like who it's for, what happens first, and what must never happen. AI coding tools fill those gaps with guesses. Shipspec asks about the gaps first and writes the answers into rules and steps the AI follows.
What happens to my idea?
Your idea is sent to the AI model that writes the plan. Your draft is saved in your browser, and when you're signed in we store only how many plans you've used, not the plan itself.
